This week is Missions Conference at GCS. In addition to having missionaries in chapel each day, the students are able to hear and ask questions about what it is like serving the Lord in a foreign country.

On Thursday, our sixth and eighth grade students were able to tour both the State House and the Governor's Mansion. The students, which are studying South Carolina history in school, enjoyed experiencing our state's historical legacy in person.

On Wednesday, students gathered at the flag poles to pray for their country. For the last 25 years, See You at the Pole has been about one simple act—prayer. See You At the Pole is still about students uniting themselves in prayer before God interceding for their generation. All around the globe, in every time zone, students will be gathering at their flagpoles, praying for their school, friends, families, churches, and communities.

This past weekend, seven students from GCS participated in the Brittany Corgan Memorial 5k in South Congaree. Jessica Townsend (not pictured) tied for first for female runners. Proceeds from the race went to the Palmetto Health Richland's Pediatric Neurology Department and was run to honor the memory of Brittany Corgan.

Last week, the seventh through twelfth grade attended our annual school retreat at Camp Longridge. Despite some rain, everyone enjoyed their time at the lake. Besides the usual swimming, canoeing, and blobbing, a new feature called the iceberg combined swimming and rock climbing.

We had a good group of GCS students and alumni tonight for the Brittany Allison Corgan Memorial 5K. Brittany was a ninth grader at GCS when she passed away in 2006. Proceeds from the race will go towards starting a new epilepsy education program. The elementary students always enjoy having Mr. Nathan Brackett come and speak in chapel services! Today he illustrated why Christ died on the cross through the Bible story of Moses and the bronze serpent.

On Wednesday, August 21, the JH/SH students of GCS were given a special treat! Basketball magician Jason Gibbons entertained the students with amazing tricks with a basketball. Known as the “White Shadow,” Jason has performed with the famous Harlem Globetrotters and had special events with Meadowlark Lemon the clown prince of basketball wizardry. Jason and Future Champions of America CEO Freddie Reed have dedicated their lives to reaching young people with a basketball and the Bible. Many doors have opened for them to share basketball and their faith.
