At Grace Christian School, Kindergarteners have fun while learning the basics of reading, writing, and numbers. Our Kindergarten classes use the time-tested "A Beka Book" curriculum. Each day starts with a Bible lesson and memorization. Following Bible are lessons in phonics, handwriting, numbers, and basic math. Daily games and activities are integrated into each subject so that the 8:05 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. block of time is an exciting and memorable time in each child's life! With these concepts in hand, the student can then confidently enter first grade and parents can be assured that their child is more than adequately prepared.
Half-day kindergarten is provided for 3 and 4 year old children. Day care is available from 11:45pm-6pm for children who need an all-day program. It is our desire to present K3 and K4 students with the basics of reading and math with the low pressure of a progress report style grade system.
Our 5 year old curriculum exceeds the requirements set forth by the South Carolina Department of Education. Parents have the option of choosing a half-day K5 option until 11:45am or a full-day K5 option until 3pm. The K-5 students are honored with a special graduation at the end of the year, complete with caps and gowns. They also receive a diploma in recognition of their achievement. After-care is also available for K5 students from 3pm-6pm.
Kindergarten students have plenty of time daily for run and play on our playground and in our indoor playrooms. Each class participates weekly in class music and are included in various performance opportunities such as Grandparents' Day, the Christmas Concert, and a special end-of-the-year program. Field trips vary from year to year and are taken to locations such as the zoo, a local pumpkin patch, and even a children's gymnastics centers. Kindergarten classes also have special days throughout the year such as:
- Farm Day
- Children Around the World Day
- Pilgrim and Indian Day
- Christmas Parties
- Valentine's Day
- Muffins with Mom
- Donuts with Dad
